Course Related Lecture Material

Since you are accessing a site in the Caribbean, why not take a look at some ideas for lectures based on Jamaican themes such as Blue Mountain coffee, spices, or bauxite etc.

Viewing the Adobe Acrobat PDF files requires the Adobe Reader. This is free from Adobe.Com

Inorganic

A first year University course (6 lectures) on Coordination Chemistry - C 10K.

Notes on Structure and Bonding for C10K are available for Dr Singh-Wilmot's course on the local web site. These can only be obtained from UWIMONA computers.

Prof. Lancashire's course on First Row Transition Metal Chemistry - C21J.

Prof. Dasgupta's lecture notes for C21J (2005) are available below. These can only be accessed from computers on the UWIMONA domain.
An Introduction to Transition Metal Organometallic Chemistry
An Introduction to Inorganic Reaction Mechanisms
Dr McKnights lectures for 2007/2008 are available from OurVLE (UWIMONA password required).
The interpretation of electronic spectra of high spin first row transition metal and the problems of using Tanabe-Sugano diagrams as well as how information from the spectra of some tetrahedral cobalt(II) complexes can be used to help interpret their magnetic properties are part of the second year course, C 21J.

A JCAMP-DX and CHIME display of linkage isomerism and coordination of the carbonate ligand.

Organic

C 06K notes from Dr Gallimore and Dr Martin (2002-2003) on Organic chemistry are available on the Intranet.

C10J notes from Dr Porter on Organic chemistry are available on the Intranet.
For Prof. Jacobs' C10K course, the latest notes, in PDF format, are available via OurVLE but an older set is available by clicking on a link below:
More to come

Physical

For C10J, check out the notes from Dr Maragh's course on Atomic Structure.
Notes from Dr Pinnock's courses on Thermodynamics and C23J Quantum mechanics are available on the local server for UWIMONA students.
Notes from Dr Mulder for C 33J Thermodynamics Lectures are available as well.

Applied and Food Chemistry

The starting point for everything to do with Applied and Food Chemistry is here.

Something I thought might be of interest is the top 50 chemicals produced in the USA.
A number of items of interest relating to Food Chemistry are covered in the section on Jamaican Themes for Lecture Material.

Notes from Prof Bakir on Electrochemistry and Spectroscopy are available as an Adobe Acrobat File.

A sensitive map showing a flavour wheel has been created to show examples of each of the major flavour types.
The chemistry of dyes, in particular those used as food additives, makes interesting reading material!.

Booklist for courses

The current booklist is available as an Abode Acrobat PDF file.

Chemistry / Biochemistry Material

In a collaborative effort with staff in the Department of Biochemistry, we have produced some pages on logarithms and their use in pH calculations.

Tutorial Papers

A number of tutorial papers for courses are available for download and some answers have been posted as well.

Laboratory Manuals

The laboratory manuals for some courses are available.
