UWI-Mona, Chemistry AVI files

It was originally intended that a number of short movie clips be prepared featuring different pieces of equipment and their use; eg FT-IR, sample preparation, sample compartment, instrument appearance and typical spectrum, etc.

From the log files, it is obvious that only a limited number of North American sites can receive these generally large files and that most others abort the download or time out.

My first attempt at video capture was prepared at The University of Leeds some time ago.

Thanks to Jon Maber (it is his hand) and Prof. Andrew Booth.

They have created some excellent examples of .AVI files, which can be found at the Bionet site in Leeds.

Pseudo molecular graphics

Again, thanks to Jon Maber who wrote the software used in creating the following animation files.
An overly simplistic view of the chelation of 1,2-diaminoethane by replacement of bound ammonia groups-1.7 MB. Further details on CHELATION can be found here.

The following files show rotations of simple molecules, such as caffeine.
Caffeine
If you are interested in seeing more on coffee and caffeine then look at the section from here.

A clip showing the relationship of octahedrally coordinated groups to tetrahedral groups can be found here -300 KB.

Video formats and conversion

Various formats are available for video clips such as AVI, MPEG, FLIC, Real etc. and conversion procedures between them are now fairly easy to do with freeware or shareware.
One such is VideoMach, others can be found listed on Allen's WinAppList or at mnsi.net
