| About Chem Soc Our Humble Beginings Recognizing the necessity for the existence of an organization that would provide a forum apart from the lectures and tutorials, for students to interact, promote further interest, and develop their competence in the subject chemistry. ChemSoc, was started by Professor Cedric Hassell, the first Head of the Department of Chemistry, somewhere between 1950-1952. This makes it the oldest club/society in the university. In the early years and for sometime after, ChemSoc has enjoyed the prestige of being one of the most vibrant club/society, and was integral in initiating what has been extended to the Faculty Awards, and now Research Day, through the Chemistry Awards and ChemSoc Week respectively. Over the years ChemSoc has had cycles of vibrant activity and dormancy. |
